Blue Porcelain Vessel

This vessel belongs to a body of work inspired, in part, by the colour studies of Josef Albers. The shape of these vessels is simple and quiet in order to allow the colour to be the main focus of attention. Having spent months testing and developing colours in my studio, I arrived at a resolved colour palette of soft and bold tones.

I love how the vessels interact with each other as well as the variations I can achieve with pairing different coloured bodies with different slip inlay. It’s incredible how the same coloured slip can look so different, like a completely different colour, depending on the coloured body it’s paired with.

The inlaid lines are placed to give the illusion that the colour cuts right through the piece.

These vessels have a glazed interior but an unglazed exterior. This means that the exterior of the vessel is matte, allowing it to absorb and hold light rather than reflecting it. I diamond polish the exterior of each vessel by hand until it becomes super soft to the touch.

Technical details: hand-dyed porcelain, wheel-thrown and turned with precision turning tools, inlaid interior and exterior with coloured slip, diamond polished exterior, clear glazed interior, I would recommend hand washing in warm water.

Size: approximately 14cm high, 6cm wide
